Bathroom Poster - Shoalhaven DV (A5).png

Domestic Abuse is not just Physical Violence -

Abuse types and where to get help

This poster identifies and describes a number of domestic abuse types suffered by victims of domestic violence. The aim of this poster is to bring about understanding and awareness, that domestic violence is not limited to physical abuse, but an array of other abuse types including psychological abuse, social abuse, stalking, financial abuse, and sadly, many other forms.

The poster has been printed and put on the back of bathroom stalls all around the Shoalhaven. It brings attention to the various other types of abuse that someone might face without realising they are in a domestic violence situation.

If you or someone you know needs help, there are various national numbers towards the bottom of the poster that may be useful. As always, if you are in immediate danger, call 000. Local support services are also listed for residents of the Shoalhaven.

Women, Intimate Partner Violence and the Law -

with Heather Douglas

We are joined by special guest speaker Heather Douglas who has recently published her book "Women, Intimate Partner Violence and the Law" which details the experiences of 65 domestic violence survivors and their journeys within the legal system studying the impact this has on victim-survivors.

In this webinar Heather will give some background about writing the book and share some real life experiences we can learn from. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the webinar so attendees will have a chance to ask Heather questions and gain from her wealth of experience working in this field for many years. Heather is also an author of the Domestic and Family Violence Benchbook – a resource that was the first of its kind in Australia for use by legal practitioners and Judicial officers to use in Family law and Civil proceedings to better inform them of different types of abuse that exist and can be recognised better by our legal system.
